Alan is celebrating his 50 years in public accounting at Alan L. Grothe, CPA, LLC. He graduated in the initial year of CSU College of Business year 1966. He owes those accounting professors that taught him so much! He passed the CPA exam in 1968.
His first 12 years were spent in Longmont, Colorado and the next 10 years in Fort Collins, Colorado. He moved to Atlanta in 1988 and worked 3 ½ years with a large now regional firm. He started his present firm in 1991 and the firm includes 5 full time professionals including his star tax accountant wife, Paula Grothe, EA.
Alan L. Grothe, CPA does 700 tax returns, 600 individuals and 100 businesses. Alan does tax, but his major focuses include auditing and peer reviews. Audits include Employee Benefit Plans, non-profits and commercial. Non-profits include federally funded agencies including HUD public housing authorities, some are A-133 and now under the Uniform Guidance Act. He has performed over 400 peer reviews for firms in over 20 states from 1980 to date. His firm is a member of Abacus Worldwide International Association and attended at their conference in Amsterdam in October 2015 and traveled to Belgium and Germany while there.
He was a technical reviewer for the Georgia Society for 23 years retiring in 2015 and was a former member of the AICPA Technical Reviewer Task Force for 3 years, was a formerly a Concierge and currently a Mentor for the AICPA Peer Review Program.
His firm is currently licensed in Georgia, District of Columbia and Arizona and was previously licensed in Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska.
He has taught courses to CPAs in the area of compilation and review update for many years, peer review updates, nonprofit updates, financial statement disclosures and emerging government audit issues.
Activities include lots of tennis since moving to Atlanta and occasionally currently plays 4 or 5 times a week and is on a number of teams during the year. He was on 2 City Campion ALTA tennis teams and 2 second place teams in the 90s.
He plays a lot of golf and has a trophy for a hole in one in 1998. He plays in a weekend group that goes to Florida and plays 99 holes in 4 days annually. His hole in one was with this group. He plays a lot of golf in Scottsdale, Arizona and just returned from there February 8, 2016 and played 2 days there. He also likes to swim and Dance and has some videos of his dancing.
He was born in Laramie, WY and moved to Fort Collins when 2 years old. He graduated from Fort Collins High School (Lambkins) in 1959.
